The Science and Theology of Prayer: The Lord’s Prayer
Scripture: Psalms 119:12–56, Matthew 6:5–9 How do we start our prayers? Do we need to acknowledge Who we are addressing? Do we come with gratitude, reverence, and awe, or do we barge with demands? “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Honestly, they have received their reward in full.…

THOUGHTS:
=======================
We accumulate tons of things in our rooms, in our homes, and in our cabinets. We don’t even use some of this stuff, but we have it, and we don’t want to throw it away because we feel it's ours. No matter how much stuff we know we have, it doesn’t stop us from getting more stuff; some of us have so much that we forget most of the stuff we do have. But would we stop using it even if we got a warning about it? Would we stop collecting unnecessary things? Probably not; the bible verse today tells us to BEWARE of covetousness; our life isn’t about the abundance of things we have, how many times have we looked at someone else stuff. And say I want this because this person has it or I want this because this other person has that, the word tells us not to covet what other people have.
I can remember I got everything I wanted when I was younger, in my early twenties. I got it. I didn’t care about how much I already had or what it was; if I wanted it, I got it. I didn’t even care if I could use it because I just needed to have it, and in my mind, it was a need, and it wasn’t a need; it was more of a want. I was coveting other people's things; a lot of times, during any sin, we don’t see it as a sin or as wrong because we are too busy trying to get more.
Psalm 119:36-37 Incline my heart to your testimonies, not to selfish gain! Turn my eyes off worthless things, and give me life in your ways.
I didn’t know what I was doing at the time; I just knew it was something I WANTED, and I got it. I didn’t ever use it, but for a day, maybe two days, and I was done with it; it was just the point of having it in my hands, see covetousness it can take over; every sin makes us do this. It’s the part no one wants to discuss about allowing ourselves to get so focused on whatever it is that we don’t see the harm until it's too late.
Hebrews 13:5 Keep your life free from the love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.
Jesus wants us to stop and notice the things around us. He wants us to notice what we shouldn’t do and immediately take it to him. The enemy will have you thinking what you're doing is fine, and the world will tell you it is fine, but it is not , it’s a sin, no matter how you look at it. When we stop normalizing sin and making it okay and saying it’s alright, we can quickly kill the sin, but what happens is we talk to friends and family instead of God, and they tell us it’s okay to do it this way, or it’s okay to be that way.
Also, in this verse, the lord says to be content, but it’s hard to be content when our wants outweigh our sense of reasoning; that’s why we must go back to God and have him recalibrate our minds and hearts. Sometimes, we lose focus of what we are supposed to be doing because our mind is on the wrong things; see, the enemy wants our mind to stay on the wrong things, people of God; he wants us where we are so distracted we don’t call upon the name of the lord but friends we must start calling on him because our sins are going to overcome us if we don’t try to let go of them, our sins will turn into something worse if we aren’t careful.
The word of God today is saying BEWARE, and that’s a sign of caution; that’s a sign of warning; we can take heed of it or ignore God's warning of any sin. Don’t allow money and things to distract you from the love of God or your relationship with him
1 Timothy 6:6-8 Yet true godliness with contentment is itself great wealth. After all, we brought nothing with us when we came into the world, and we can’t take anything with us when we leave it. So, if we have enough food and clothing, let us be content
When we are content having wealth, we didn’t come into this world with anything, and we will leave just the same way, so to accumulate so much stuff isn’t going to get us closer to heaven; the word says if we have enough food, and we have enough clothing that’s all we should want and be content. Are you content? Are you satisfied? God can make us so content in our lives if we allow him to. Some of us are happy with wanting so much that we are blinded by it, but God's word says to be content; we must find a healthy balance in our life, and we can’t do that if we aren’t ready to. Are you ready to find it??
Luke 8:14 And as for what fell among the thorns, they are those who hear, but as they go on their way, they are choked by the cares and riches and pleasures of life, and their fruit does not mature.
Some of us are these kinds of seeds; we hear the word, but we are chocked by the cares and riches of this life; we look for pleasure rather than to please God, and the fruits that we are supposed to be baring don’t mature because it can’t because we don’t allow God to nurture them. We are too busy nurturing our pockets and sinful ways. God wants to take care of every facet of our lives, not just the good parts but the sinful parts too, but we must be ready to let go and allow him to do this.
***Today, we talked about being content and accumulating so much stuff. It’s easy to do, but do we think it’s unnecessary? Do we see what God says about this, or do we just agree because we think that’s what he wants us to do? God wants us to understand why he says this about our lives because he wants us to see truly, and if we don’t, we need to ask; some of us want to understand the heart of God, and some of us don’t, but whatever we are having a problem with we must take it to God, today we learned we must be content not just with life but also with what we have, we need our heart regulated by God, because he’s the only one that can fix us he’s the only one that can show us the way, without him we can’t bare good fruits nor be content.

God's Charges Against Israel
1 Hear the word of יהוה, you children of Yisra’ĕl, for יהוה has a case against the inhabitants of the land: “For there is no truth or kindness or knowledge of Elohim in the land.
2 “Swearing, and lying, and murdering, and stealing, and committing adultery have increased. And bloodshed follows bloodshed.
3 “Therefore the land mourns, and everyone living there languishes, with the beasts of the field and the birds of the heavens. And the fish of the sea are taken away.
4 “However, let no one strive or reprove another, for your people are like those striving with a priest.
5 “And you shall stumble in the day, and the prophet shall also stumble with you in the night. And I shall make your mother perish.
6 “My people have perished for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being priest for Me. Since you have forgotten the Torah of your Elohim, I also forget your children.
7 “As they were increased, so they sinned against Me. My esteem they have changed into shame.
8 “They eat the sin of My people, and lift up their desire to their crookedness.
9 “And it shall be: like people, like priest. And I shall punish them for their ways, and reward them for their deeds.
10 “And they shall eat but not be satisfied, they shall whore but not increase, for they have stopped obeying יהוה.
11 “Whoring, and wine, and new wine enslave the heart.
12 “My people ask from their Wood, and their Staff declares to them. For a spirit of whorings has led them astray, and they went whoring from under their Elohim.
13 “They slaughter on the mountaintops, and burn incense on the hills, under oak and poplars and terebinth, because its shade is good. Therefore your daughters commit whoring, and your brides commit adultery.
14 “I would not punish your daughters when they commit whoring, nor your brides when they commit adultery, for the men themselves go aside with whores, and offer with cult prostitutes – a people that do not understand are thrust down!
15 “Though you are a whore, Yisra’ĕl, let not Yehuḏah become guilty. Do not come up to Gilgal, nor go up to Bĕyth Awen, nor swear an oath, saying, ‘As יהוה lives!’
16 “For Yisra’ĕl is stubborn, like a stubborn calf. Would יהוה now feed them like a lamb in a broad place?
17 “Ephrayim is joined to idols, let him alone.
18 “Their drink is sour, they have whored continually. Her rulers wildly loved shame.
19 “A wind has bound her up in its wings, and they are ashamed because of their slaughterings. — Hosea 4 | The Scriptures 1998 (ISR 1998) The Scriptures 1998 Copyright © 1998 Institute for Scripture Research. A link to my personal reading of the Scriptures
for the 14th of August 2024 with a paired chapter from each Testament (the First & the New Covenant) of the Bible
[The Letter of James, Chapter 4 • The Book of Deuteronomy, Chapter 12]
along with Today’s reading from the ancient books of Proverbs and Psalms with Proverbs 14 and Psalm 14 coinciding with the day of the month, accompanied by Psalm 56 for the 56th day of Astronomical Summer, and Psalm 77 for day 227 of the year (with the consummate book of 150 Psalms in its 2nd revolution this year)
A post by John Parsons:
According to the mystics of Jewish tradition, the entire cosmos is said to be created from the 22 consonants of the Hebrew Alphabet, called otiyot yesod (אוֹתְיּוֹת יְסוֹד), or “foundational letters.” Through the otiyot yesod God formed substance out of chaos and brought forth existence from nonexistence. In other words, the entire universe is created and sustained by the breathing out of divine language (i.e., the Word of God).
The Talmud says "All the world was created for the Messiah" (Sanhedrin 98b). The New Testament had earlier said the same thing: "All things were created by Him (i.e., Yeshua), and for Him" and in Him all things consist (συνεστηκεν, lit. "stick together") (Col. 1:16-17). Yeshua our Messiah is called devar Elohim (דְּבַר אֱלִים), the Word of God, who upholds the created order by the Word of His power. It is the Messiah Yeshua alone Who is the true yesod (foundation) of life itself. Every holy utterance can be traced back to Him, and He is the Source (הַמָּקוֹר) of all that is good, lasting, and righteous. "For from him and through him and to him are all things" (Rom. 11:36). Indeed, “He is the zohar of His glory,” that is, the radiance of the glory of God Himself, who “upholds all things by the word of His power” (Heb. 1:3).
Since Yeshua is the Aleph and the Tav (אָלֶף וְתָו), the First and the Last (הַרִאשׁוֹן וְאַחֲרוֹן), we can see that the otiyot will all reveal something about Him (Rev. 22:13). Indeed, the Hebrew word for “letter” is ot (אוֹת), which can also mean “sign” or “wonder.” Yeshua affimed that each letter of the Hebrew alphabet -- every “jot and tittle” (i.e., kotzo shel yod: קוֹצוֹ שֶׁל יוֹד) -- contains signs that point to truths about our LORD (Matt. 5:17; Luke 16:17; Isa. 40:8).
The structure and sequence of the Hebrew alphabet (האלפבית העברי) itself is clearly part of God’s revelation to us. As demonstrated by the various acrostic sections of Scripture (e.g., Lamentations, Psalm 25, Psalm 119, Proverbs 31, etc.), God “breathed out” the Hebrew alphabet in a particular order. Indeed, the first letter of the alphabet is the letter Aleph (א), which represents the number one (מספר אחת). As a silent letter, Aleph is preeminent in its order and alludes to ineffable mysteries of the “achdut” (אַחְדוּת) oneness of God (Col. 1:18). Indeed, the word aluph (derived from the very name of this letter) means “Master” or “Lord.”
In the “classical” Hebrew script (כתב אשורי) the letter Aleph (א) is constructed as a "three-in-one" (שְׁלוֹשָׁה בְּאֶחָד) letter formed by two Yods (י), one to the upper right and the other to the lower left, that are joined by a diagonal or slanted letter Vav (ו). The two Yods represent two hands (the Hebrew word “yod” means hand), and the slanted Vav pictures a wounded Man: one hand rises toward heaven while the other reaches down to earth. The total of the three letters hidden within the Aleph is 26 (i.e., Yod+Yod+ Vav), which is the same value as the Name YHVH (יהוה). The first letter, then, of the Name Elohim (אלהים), "God," represents Yeshua, the LORD of Compassion who breaths upon us the breath of life (Gen. 2:7; John 20:22).

TURN THE LIGHT ON!
TURN THE LIGHT ON
Psalm 119:105
Flip the switch! Turn the light on! Light, in whatever form it comes - candle, lamp, overhead bulb, flashlight, or torchlight - provides visibility for us to see clearly where we’re heading.
Darkness is a shroud that keeps us stagnant! We are bound by invisibility, unable to move progressively, either due to confusion, reduced vision, or fear. But the Lord will, if we allow Him, become our light and lamp, one that’s not subject to natural forces.
Darkness is the cover for the unrighteous to commit wickedness and hide their atrocities, according to Proverbs 4:19. But verse 18 says the righteous is like a shining light that increases from twilight to noonday splendour. So, the course of the righteous increases in purity, success, and prosperity.
Light dawns in the darkness for the upright, scattering like seeds on the path of the righteous, according to Psalm 97:11. The image of light represents God’s guidance for His people. God makes the path clear for the faithful to travel on, so that even if they stumble, they will not fall.
Flip the switch! Turn on the light! Why are you groping in the dark? Stumbling about looking for an exit route when the Lord can lead you down a well-lit path?
The light of God that is within us all should expose and drive out the darkness, stopping us from stumbling, according to Psalm 56:13.
The illuminating light of the word of God, according to our text, is like the lamps set on a pathway to provide light for our feet. As Proverbs 6:23 puts it, “For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching a light, and the reproofs of discipline are the way of life.” As a believer, when you find yourself stumbling in the darkness of sin, depression, sickness, pain, and uncertainty, allow the word of God to become a shining light to guide you.
Turning on our light shows visible transformation in our heart and lives. When we let our light shine, it becomes evident in how we treat ourselves and others. We show gratitude for Jesus’ sacrifice, and our hope in God helps us face challenges with confidence.
Many in underdeveloped countries probably understand better what it means to live in darkness, without the aid of electricity at night. But even the absence of physical light should not deter or discourage us. According to John 8:12, being a believer means Jesus becomes our light, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.”
Are you a visible and warm light to those around you? Have you allowed the light of Christ within you to make you a beacon to attract others to faith? Let your light shine! Turn the light on!
We live in a generation that is getting darker daily, and it’s so easy to go with the flow and allow the darkness in. But remember that God calls us children of light and day in 1 Thessalonians 5:5, to express God’s glory and love, to operate in righteousness and power visible to all, and not under the cover of darkness.
We serve the God of light; we see from the beginning in Genesis 1 that the Lord did nothing without light. They say, “If you want to give light to others, you must glow yourself,” which is what God did for us. He gave us His light through Christ, but we still must turn the light on through the expression of the fruit of the Holy Spirit, according to Galatians 5:22-23.
Christ is the true light of the world, and through Him alone, true wisdom is imparted to the mind. This allows us to operate with understanding and knowledge. Turn the light on to see the path laid out for you.
PRAYER: Light of the world, let your light shine in me that men will come to my light and the brightness of my rising in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Shalom

Blindness
"We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noonday as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men" - Isaiah 59:10
This lamentation of Isaiah about the state of affairs of God's people Israel is an almost verbatim fulfillment of a prophetic warning God gave in the law[Deuteronomy 28:29], where YAHWEH outlined in detail the blessings the blessings and cursings associate with obedience and disobedience, concerning the blessings that "shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments"[Deuteronomy 28:1] and the cursings that "shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes"[Deuteronomy 28:15]
One of the curses caused by disobedience was that they would be stricken with spiritual blindness and there would be darkness and no spiritual light, and there would be none to save them for the plight that they had put themselves into.
The reason people grope around 'at noonday' when the sun is at its brightest alludes to and was intended to emphasize that the issue is not about literal vision of light or darkness but rather had to do with spiritual blindness or spiritual darkness. They were groping around because they either had no spiritual light or their eyes were blind to spiritual things or they closed their eyes so that spiritual light cannot enter.
They grope around because they are trying to walk a spiritual path but can’t see where to put their feet, or which direction to go, and don’t even know what a spiritual ditch looks like. These things were alluding to not even knowing that a problem is a problem till after stepping into it, or not knowing that they are going in the wrong direction until after crashing into the wall or falling over a cliff.
Scripture teaches that spiritual light is the knowledge ,wisdom and understanding of the word of God. Light exists in the form of light from celestial objects such as the sun, moon and stars or terrestrial light like a lamp or a candle. There is light from above or light from below, as the Psalmist points out that "thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path."[Psalm 119:105] when he compared the terrestrial lamp from below to illuminate his feet and steps, and the celestial light from above to illuminate the road and pathway of life.
Those who grope around realize their blindness and seek for light sight and the path, but there are those who are blind and don’t know they are blind. The prophets warned of the danger of trusting in the blind when he said: "his watchmen are blind: they are all ignorant, they are all dumb dogs, they cannot bark; sleeping, lying down, loving to slumber."[Isaiah 56:10] which associated blindness and ignorance. Jesus the Anointed teaches of these types of people who he refers to as blind guides when he warns: "let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch."[Matthew 15:14]
The solution begins with understanding our blindness, and seeking a guide to hold our hand, and requesting the blessing of receiving sight and the light to see how we should walk and which direction we should take. We know "that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all."[I John 1:5] and this light is made available to us through His only begotten son Jesus. Jesus is our guide to hold our hand, he is our healer to restore our sight, and he is our light to show us which steps to take, and where we should go so we no longer walk in darkness.
"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." John 8:12
The benefits of walking in the light are many, and we are assured by scripture that "if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin."[I John 1:7]

My day was full, but I was with God even in my quest to provide. Did you realize that making a simple decision to read the Bible every day is one of the most strategic choices toward joy that you will ever make? The Bible is infinitely more powerful than any other human answer for emotional ailments. The Bible is not simply a flat book. It is a dynamic source of heaven's power. So many people tell me that they don't understand the Bible ... and I tell them that's o.k.! Just keep reading it! We don't always read the Word of God for information, but we always read it for transformation! I guarantee that what your mind is not able to understand, your spirit will absorb! Because you really do have an enemy ... and he really does understand the power that a Christian extracts from reading the Bible ... the devil will do anything and everything that he is capable of doing to convince you not to read the Word of God! Discipline is never easy and always requires great focus and intent. Don't make excuses for why you couldn't read the Bible yesterday or are not able to read the Bible today ... just do it! Make the powerful choice to spend time every day in God's Word, and you will have more than enough joy to share with the world around you! My prayer for you today is that you will declare with the prophet, Jeremiah, "Your words became for me a joy and the delight of my heart!" Psalms 119:1-6 and Psalms 56:1-12 Keep your Joy! https://www.instagram.com/p/CngLDRNt-8L/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

The Science and Theology of Prayer: The Lord’s Prayer — Part 1
Prayer is only likely to have mental-health benefits for those who are open to it.....
Scripture: Psalms 119:12–56, Matthew 6:5–9 Summary: How do we start our prayers? Do we need to acknowledge Who we are addressing? Do we come with gratitude, reverence, and awe, or do we barge with demands? “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Honestly, they have received their reward…

Psalm 119Tree of Life Version
Learn Torah Letter by Letter
Psalm 119
ALEPH א
1 Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the Torah of Adonai. 2 Happy are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with a whole heart, 3 who also do no injustice, but walk in His ways. 4 You have commanded that Your precepts be kept diligently. 5 Oh that my ways were steadfast to observe Your decrees! 6 Then I would not be ashamed, when I consider all Your mitzvot. 7 I will praise You with an upright heart as I learn Your righteous judgments. 8 I will observe Your statutes. Never abandon me utterly!
BET ב
9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to Your word. 10 With my whole heart have I sought You —let me not stray from Your mitzvot. 11 I have treasured Your word in my heart, so I might not sin against You. 12 Blessed are You, Adonai. Teach me Your statutes. 13 With my lips I rehearse all the rulings of Your mouth. 14 I rejoice in the way of Your testimonies above all wealth. 15 I will meditate on Your precepts, and regard Your ways. 16 I will delight in Your decrees. I will never forget Your word.
GIMEL ג
17 Do good to Your servant that I may live and keep Your word. 18 Open my eyes, so I may behold wonders from Your Torah. 19 I am a temporary dweller on earth— do not hide Your mitzvot from me. 20 My soul is crushed with longing for Your judgments at all times. 21 You rebuke the proud, who are cursed, who wander from Your mitzvot. 22 Take scorn and contempt away from me, for I have kept Your testimonies. 23 Though princes sit and talk against me, Your servant meditates on Your decrees. 24 For Your testimonies are my delight— they are also my counselors.
DALET ד
25 My soul clings to the dust. Revive me according to Your word! 26 I told of my ways and You answered me. Teach me Your statutes. 27 Help me discern the way of Your precepts, so I may meditate on Your wonders. 28 My soul weeps with grief. Make me stand firm with Your word. 29 Turn me away from the deceitful way, and be gracious to me with Your Torah. 30 I have chosen the way of faithfulness. I have set my heart on Your judgments. 31 I cling to Your testimonies. Adonai, do not put me to shame! 32 I run the course of Your mitzvot, for You open wide my heart.
HEY ה
33 Teach me the way of Your decrees, Adonai, and I will follow them to the end. 34 Give me understanding, that I may keep Your Torah and observe it with all my heart. 35 Help me walk in the path of Your mitzvot— for I delight in it. 36 Turn my heart to Your testimonies and not to dishonest gain. 37 Turn my eyes away from gazing at vanity but revive me in Your ways. 38 Fulfill Your word to Your servant, which leads to reverence for You. 39 Make the disgrace I dread pass away, for Your judgments are good. 40 Behold, I long for Your precepts. Revive me by Your righteousness.
VAV ו
41 May Your lovingkindnesses come to me, Adonai— Your salvation according to Your word— 42 so I may answer the one taunting me, for I trust in Your word. 43 Never snatch out of my mouth a word of truth, for I hope in Your judgments. 44 So I may always keep Your Torah, forever and ever, 45 and walk about in freedom. For I have sought Your precepts. 46 I will speak of Your testimonies before kings, and never be ashamed. 47 I delight in Your mitzvot, which I love. 48 I reach out my hands for Your mitzvot, which I love, and meditate on Your decrees.
ZAYIN ז
49 Remember the word to Your servant, on which You have made me hope. 50 My comfort in my affliction is this: Your word has kept me alive. 51 The arrogant have viciously ridiculed me, yet I did not turn away from Your Torah. 52 I remember Your judgments from of old, Adonai, and comfort myself. 53 Burning indignation grips me, because of the wicked who forsake Your Torah. 54 Your decrees have become my songs in the house where I dwell. 55 In the night I remember Your Name, Adonai, and keep watching over Your Torah. 56 This is my own: that I keep Your precepts.
CHET ח
57 Adonai is my portion. I promised to guard Your words. 58 I have entreated Your favor with all my heart. Be gracious to me according to Your word. 59 I have considered my ways and turned my feet back to Your testimonies. 60 I hasten and do not delay to obey Your mitzvot. 61 The ropes of the wicked are coiled around me, but I did not forget Your Torah. 62 At midnight I rise to praise You, because of Your righteous rulings. 63 I am a companion of all who fear You, of those who observe Your precepts. 64 The earth is full of Your lovingkindness. Adonai—teach me Your decrees.
TET ט
65 You do good to Your servant, Adonai, according to Your word. 66 Teach me good sense and knowledge, for I trusted in Your mitzvot. 67 Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I keep Your word. 68 You are good and keep doing good— teach me Your decrees. 69 Though the proud smeared a lie on me, with all my heart I keep Your precepts. 70 Their minds are insensible, but Your Torah is my delight. 71 It is good for me that I was afflicted, so that I may learn Your decrees. 72 The Torah from Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.
YOD י
73 Your hands have made me and formed me. Give me understanding that I may learn Your mitzvot. 74 Those in awe of You see me and rejoice, because I put my hope in Your word. 75 I know, Adonai, Your judgments are just. In faithfulness You have afflicted me. 76 May Your lovingkindness comfort me, according to Your promise to Your servant. 77 Let Your tender mercies reach me, Let me live, for Your Torah is my delight. 78 May the proud be put to shame for wronging me with a lie, but I will meditate on Your precepts. 79 Let those in awe of You return to me— those who know Your testimonies. 80 My heart will have integrity in following Your decrees, so that I would not be ashamed.
KAF כ
81 My soul faints with longing for Your salvation, but I still hope in Your word. 82 My eyes are worn out longing for Your promise, saying, “When will You comfort me?” 83 Though I became like a wineskin dried in smoke, I do not forget Your decrees. 84 How many are the days of Your servant? When will You execute judgment on my persecutors? 85 The proud have dug pits for me— that is not in accord with Your Torah! 86 All Your mitzvot are faithful. They persecute me with a lie—help me! 87 They almost finished me off on earth. But I—I will not forsake Your precepts. 88 Revive me with Your lovingkindness, so I may keep Your mouth’s testimony.
LAMED ל
89 Forever, Adonai, Your word stands firm in the heavens. 90 Your faithfulness endures from generation to generation. You established the earth, and it stands. 91 Your judgments stand today, for all things are Your servants. 92 If Your Torah had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction. 93 I will never forget Your precepts. For with them You have kept me alive. 94 I am Yours, save me! For I have sought out Your precepts. 95 The wicked wait for me to destroy me. But I will study Your testimonies. 96 I have seen a limit to all perfection, yet Your commandment is boundless.
MEM מ
97 O how I love Your Torah! It is my meditation all day. 98 Your mitzvot make me wiser than my enemies —for they are mine forever. 99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for Your testimonies are my meditation. 100 I have gained more understanding than all my elders, for I have kept Your precepts. 101 I kept my feet from every evil way, in order to follow Your word. 102 I do not turn away from Your rulings, for You Yourself have taught me. 103 How sweet is Your word to my taste— yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 From Your precepts I get discernment, therefore I hate every false way.
NUN נ
105 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.[a] 106 I have sworn and confirmed to observe Your righteous rulings. 107 I am severely afflicted. Keep me alive, Adonai, according to Your word. 108 Please accept the freewill offerings of my mouth, Adonai, and teach me Your rulings. 109 My soul is continually in danger, yet I have not forgotten Your Torah. 110 The wicked have set a snare for me, yet I did not stray from Your precepts. 111 Your testimonies I have as a heritage forever, for they are my heart’s joy. 112 I turned my heart to do Your decrees, forever, to the very end.
SAMECH ס
113 I hate double-minded ones, but Your Torah I love. 114 You are my hiding place and my shield —in Your word I hope. 115 Away from me, evildoers, so I may keep the mitzvot of my God! 116 Sustain me according to Your word, so I may live, and let me not be ashamed of my hope. 117 Support me and I will be saved, and study Your decrees continually. 118 You despise all who wander from Your decrees, for their deceitfulness is in vain. 119 All the wicked of the earth You remove like dross. Therefore I love Your testimonies. 120 My flesh shudders for fear of You, and I am in awe of Your judgments.
AYIN ע
121 I did what is just and right. Do not leave me to my oppressors. 122 Guarantee Your servant’s well-being. Do not let arrogant ones oppress me. 123 My eyes fail, longing for Your salvation and for Your righteous word. 124 Deal with Your servant as befits Your lovingkindness, and teach me Your statutes. 125 I am Your servant, give me discernment, so I may understand Your testimonies. 126 It is time for Adonai to act— they have violated Your Torah! 127 Therefore I love Your mitzvot more than gold, more than pure gold. 128 Therefore I esteem all Your precepts as right in every way —every false way I hate.
PE פ
129 Your testimonies are wonderful. Therefore my soul obeys them. 130 The unfolding of Your words gives light, giving understanding to the simple. 131 I opened my mouth wide and panted, for I longed for Your mitzvot. 132 Turn to me and be gracious to me, as is fitting to those who love Your Name. 133 Direct my footsteps in Your word, and let no iniquity get mastery over me. 134 Redeem me from human oppression, and I will keep Your precepts. 135 Make Your face shine on Your servant, and teach me Your decrees. 136 Streams of water run down from my eyes, because they do not observe Your Torah.
TZADHE צ
137 Righteous are You, Adonai, and Your judgments are upright. 138 You have commanded righteousness, Your testimonies, and great faithfulness. 139 My zeal has consumed me, because my foes forgot Your words. 140 Your word is thoroughly refined, and Your servant loves it. 141 I am insignificant and despised, yet I have not forgotten Your precepts. 142 Your justice is righteousness forever, and Your Torah is truth. 143 Trouble and anguish have overtaken me, yet Your mitzvot are my delight. 144 Your testimonies are righteous forever —make me understand, so I may live.
KOF ק
145 I cried out with all my heart, “Answer me, Adonai! I will keep Your decrees.” 146 I cried out to You, “Save me, and I will keep Your testimonies.” 147 I am up before dawn, crying for help— I put my hope in Your word. 148 My eyes are up before every night watch, as I meditate on Your word. 149 Hear my voice with Your lovingkindness. Revive me, Adonai, with Your judgments. 150 Pursuers of wicked schemes draw near— they are far from Your Torah. 151 You are near, Adonai, and all Your mitzvot are truth. 152 Long ago I learned from Your testimonies that You founded them firmly forever.
RESH ר
153 See my affliction and rescue me, for I do not forget Your Torah. 154 Defend my cause and redeem me. Restore my life through Your word. 155 Salvation is far from the wicked, for they do not seek after Your decrees. 156 Great are Your mercies, Adonai. Restore my life with Your judgments. 157 Many are my persecutors and my foes. Yet I do not turn from Your testimonies. 158 I see the treacherous and loathe them, because they do not keep Your word. 159 See how I loved Your precepts. Restore my life, Adonai, with Your lovingkindness. 160 Truth is the essence of Your word, and all Your righteous rulings are eternal.
SHIN ש
161 Princes persecute me for no reason, but my heart is in awe of Your words. 162 I rejoice in Your word, as one who finds great spoil. 163 I hate and abhor falsehood, but Your Torah I love. 164 Seven times a day I praise You, because of Your righteous judgments. 165 Great peace have they who love Your Torah, and nothing causes them to stumble. 166 I hope for Your salvation, Adonai, and do Your mitzvot. 167 My soul has observed Your testimonies and I love them exceedingly. 168 I observe Your precepts and Your laws, for all my ways are before You.
TAV ת
169 Let my cry come to You, Adonai. Grant me understanding by Your word. 170 Let my supplication come before You. Deliver me, according to Your promise. 171 My lips utter praise, for You teach me Your statutes. 172 My tongue sings of Your word, for all Your mitzvot are righteous. 173 Let Your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen Your precepts. 174 I long for Your deliverance, Adonai, and Your Torah is my delight. 175 Let my soul live and praise You, and may Your rulings help me. 176 I have strayed like a lost sheep—seek Your servant. For I did not forget Your mitzvot.

Why Should I Fear in Days of Evil?
For the choir director. Of the sons of Korah. A Psalm.
1 Hear this, all peoples; Give ear, all inhabitants of the world, 2 Both low and high, Rich and poor together. 3 My mouth will speak wisdom, And the meditation of my heart will be discernment. 4 I will incline my ear to a proverb; I will express my riddle on the harp.
5 Why should I fear in days of evil, When the iniquity of my supplanters surrounds me, 6 Even those who trust in their wealth And boast in the abundance of their riches? 7 Truly, no man can redeem his brother; He cannot give to God a ransom for him— 8 For the redemption price for their soul is costly, And it ceases forever— 9 That he should live on eternally, That he should not see corruption.
10 For he sees that even wise men die; The fool and the senseless alike perish And leave their wealth to others. 11 Their inner thought is that their houses are forever And their dwelling places from generation to generation; They have called their lands after their own names. 12 But man in his honor will not endure; He is like the animals that perish.
13 This is the way of those who are foolish, And of those after them who are pleased with their words. Selah. 14 As sheep they are appointed for Sheol; Death will shepherd them; And the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning, And their form shall be for Sheol to consume, Far away from his habitation. 15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of Sheol, For He will receive me. Selah.
16 Do not be afraid when a man becomes rich, When the glory of his house increases; 17 For when he dies he will not take any of it; His glory will not descend after him. 18 For while he lives he blesses his soul— And men will praise you when you do well for yourself— 19 But his soul shall go to the generation of his fathers; They will eternally not see light. 20 Man in his honor, but who does not understand, Is like the animals that perish. — Psalm 49 | Legacy Standard Bible (LSB) Legacy Standard Bible Copyright ©2021 by The Lockman Foundation. Psalm 23 Psalm 23 Lesson 03: Restoration
A famous musician was interviewed after winning a Grammy for album of the year. The interviewer asked him how he felt after finally making it to the top of the charts and winning the award.
The musician replied, “I chased fame and fortune all my life. I thought I would never be satisfied until I reached the top of the world. Now that I’m here, I still feel empty inside.”
Have you ever felt like this musician? Is there a cure for the emptiness he felt? Let’s find out in today’s lesson.
Let’s read together Psalm 23:3.
“He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.”
God wants to bring restoration in our lives. Why do we need restoration in the first place?
Let’s read together Proverbs 14:12; Psalm 42:11; and Psalm 56:13.
We have a spiritual hole in our lives. We can try to fill that hole with worldly things such as pleasure, wealth, fame, and intellectual knowledge. However, those things will ultimately never satisfy us. We may even realize the profoundness of that hole once we have achieved the things we chased after.
God wants to reinvigorate our lives. He wants to give our lives renewed vitality. How does God bring about restoration?
Let’s read together Deuteronomy 6:25; Psalm 19:7; Psalm 119:105; and 1 Corinthians 10:12-13.
Note in Psalm 23:3, the Good Shepherd leads his sheep in the path of righteousness. Jesus invites us to turn to his Word, the Bible. Why does Jesus want us to study the Bible?
Let’s read together Genesis 15:6; Genesis 18:19; John 10:10; John 14:6; and 1 John 3:16.
Jesus wants us to study the Bible to learn about Him and His love us. Jesus wants to guide our lives. When we develop a relationship with Jesus, only then will we find the satisfaction we have been missing.
Let’s read together Acts 5:32 and Philippians 2:13.
Psalm 23:3 is a promise Jesus can give us restoration and guide us into righteousness.
Friend, will you let Jesus lead you and fill the hole in your life?

You shall bring out your baggage like an exile in the daytime while they are looking on.
The word of the LORD came to me: Son of man, you live in the midst of a rebellious house; they have eyes to see but do not see, and ears to hear but do not hear, for they are a rebellious house. Now, son of man, during the day while they are looking on, prepare your baggage as though for exile, and again while they are looking on, migrate from where you live to another place; perhaps they will see that they are a rebellious house. You shall bring out your baggage like an exile in the daytime while they are looking on; in the evening, again while they are looking on, you shall go out like one of those driven into exile; while they look on, dig a hole in the wall and pass through it; while they look on, shoulder the burden and set out in the darkness; cover your face that you may not see the land, for I have made you a sign for the house of Israel.
I did as I was told. During the day I brought out my baggage as though it were that of an exile, and at evening I dug a hole through the wall with my hand and, while they looked on, set out in the darkness, shouldering my burden.
Then, in the morning, the word of the LORD came to me: Son of man, did not the house of Israel, that rebellious house, ask you what you were doing? Tell them: Thus says the Lord GOD: This oracle concerns Jerusalem and the whole house of Israel within it. I am a sign for you: as I have done, so shall it be done to them; as captives they shall go into exile. The prince who is among them shall shoulder his burden and set out in darkness, going through a hole he has dug out in the wall, and covering his face lest he be seen by anyone.

Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 78:56-57, 58-59, 61-62
R/ Do not forget the works of the Lord!
They tempted and rebelled against God the Most High, and kept not his decrees. They turned back and were faithless like their fathers; they recoiled like a treacherous bow.
R/ Do not forget the works of the Lord!
They angered him with their high places and with their idols roused his jealousy. God heard and was enraged and utterly rejected Israel.
R/ Do not forget the works of the Lord!
And he surrendered his strength into captivity, his glory in the hands of the foe. He abandoned his people to the sword and was enraged against his inheritance.
R/ Do not forget the works of the Lord!
Gospel Acclamation
Psalm 119:135
Alleluia, alleluia. Let your countenance shine upon your servant and teach me your statutes. Alleluia, alleluia.
Gospel
Matthew 18:21–19:1
I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.
Peter approached Jesus and asked him, “Lord, if my brother sins against me, how often must I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus answered, “I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times. That is why the Kingdom of heaven may be likened to a king who decided to settle accounts with his servants. When he began the accounting, a debtor was brought before him who owed him a huge amount. Since he had no way of paying it back, his master ordered him to be sold, along with his wife, his children, and all his property, in payment of the debt. At that, the servant fell down, did him homage, and said, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you back in full.’ Moved with compassion the master of that servant let him go and forgave him the loan. When that servant had left, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a much smaller amount. He seized him and started to choke him, demanding, ‘Pay back what you owe.’ Falling to his knees, his fellow servant begged him, ‘Be patient with me, and I will pay you back.’ But he refused. Instead, he had the fellow servant put in prison until he paid back the debt. Now when his fellow servants saw what had happened, they were deeply disturbed, and went to their master and reported the whole affair. His master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you your entire debt because you begged me to. Should you not have had pity on your fellow servant, as I had pity on you?’ Then in anger his master handed him over to the torturers until he should pay back the whole debt. So will my heavenly Father do to you, unless each of you forgives his brother from his heart.”
When Jesus finished these words, he left Galilee and went to the district of Judea across the Jordan.

Philippians 3:8-14
I continue my pursuit toward the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling, in Christ Jesus.
Brothers and sisters: I consider everything as a loss because of the supreme good of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have accepted the loss of all things and I consider them so much rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having any righteousness of my own based on the law but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God, depending on faith to know him and the power of his resurrection and the sharing of his sufferings by being conformed to his death, if somehow I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
It is not that I have already taken hold of it or have already attained perfect maturity, but I continue my pursuit in hope that I may possess it, since I have indeed been taken possession of by Christ Jesus. Brothers and sisters, I for my part do not consider myself to have taken possession. Just one thing: forgetting what lies behind but straining forward to what lies ahead, I continue my pursuit toward the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling, in Christ Jesus.

Responsorial Psalm
Psalm 16:1b-2a, 5, 7-8, 11
R/ You are my inheritance, O Lord.
Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge. I say to the LORD, “My Lord are you.” O LORD, my allotted portion and my cup, you it is who hold fast my lot.
R/ You are my inheritance, O Lord.
I bless the LORD who counsels me; even in the night my heart exhorts me. I set the LORD ever before me; with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.
R/ You are my inheritance, O Lord.
You will show me the path to life, fullness of joys in your presence, the delights at your right hand forever.
R/ You are my inheritance, O Lord.

Matthew 19:27-29
You who have followed me will receive a hundred times more.
Peter said to Jesus, “We have given up everything and followed you. What will there be for us?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, I say to you that you who have followed me, in the new age, when the Son of Man is seated on his throne of glory, will yourselves sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has given up houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands for the sake of my name will receive a hundred times more, and will inherit eternal life.”
